The Summer KARAVAAN has started
Discovering Chemnitz and Dresden

The KARAVAAN this summer was launched in Kruiningen on Saturday July 26, but it started in different countries.

A group of about seventy friends and KARAVAAN participants met together in the St John's church in the heart of Kruiningen for a special service called THE SENDING. It marked the weekend when activities of Atlantic Bridge started in different places. About seven teams started in different places doing different types of activities. Common denominator was building bridges and the fact that they are all heading towards Liberec, the Czech city where the International Youth Festival is being held from August 4-9.

Discovering Chemnitz and Dresden
Did you know that there is a church in former East Germany that is filled with people twice a week (almost 1000 people) but has no denomintational affiliation?
And did you know that in one of Hitler's favorite cities in East Germany, a revival is surfacing through many years of steady prayers by a small concerned group of Christians?

Dresden was bombed just as WWII ended and the Liebfrauenkirche was almost totally destroyed. Reconciliation. Preachers of different denominations speak wonderful Gospel messages of love and peace in this church but it is all done under the auspices of the City Hall. The story of Dresden today must be heard because it is a story of reconciliation..Chemnitz used to be called Karl Marxstadt, but the name was changed back to its original name after the communist era.

These and several other facts were discovered by the small Band of Youth on a mission of discovery as part of the KARAVAAN this summer, learning about the Christian roots and finding inspirational nuggets behind the walls of history. Read more.
